Great: But early to tell

Reviewer: Socks,
The camera arrived quickly but does not come with a memory card so we couldn't us it until we figured out which memory card we needed...this was another $30. Camera seems to work fine although we haven't used it enough to judge the battery life. Overall, quite happy with the camera and it came highly recommended from a friend so we expect to enjoy it as much as she has...
Fabulous camera for Senior Citizen

I have a couple of digital cameras but my 78 yr old husband needed a camera with a viewfinder that was easy to operate and would generate clear pictures despite his hands being unsteady most of the time. This camera does it all! This camera is almost perfect in every way ! The only feature that we both are a bit disappointed in is the on/off button is small and level with the camera body,so it a bit hard to use. We would have preferred if the button has been raised a bit or even had a left to right on/off instead of an up/down button.I realize the goal was to keep the camera's body small so button size was compromised to have room for everything.
We have never been so impressed with a camera's ease of operation while giving you so many shooting options. I printed the full manual from the Canon USA website (136 pages) and gave it to my husband to read and learn before his 60th high school reunion in late Aug. He pretty well has mastered the camera overnight. The pictures are so clear, the color balanced and we have absolutely nothing to complain about regarding picture quality.
Clearly we are not advance photographers so don't expect an in depth technical review. This is just a great point and shoot camera and it's no wonder it gets such high marks on all camera web sites. Everyone loves this camera because it's so easy to operate and produces great pictures. We love it too !!
Too bad... A great little camera that takes awful pictures.

Reviewer: teachergirl,
How disappointing! I currently own a Canon Powershot sd800is and I love it. Perfect pics & videos, excellent battery life, durable, no issues whatsoever. When my daughter saved her money up for a digital camera I really didn't look much farther than Canon because I wanted her to have a great camera. Since the sd800is is no longer available we picked the updated version, the sd1200is, which has more mega-pixels and zoom than my old one.

When it arrived, we charged the battery and began taking indoor pictures. They were very blurry and they had a yellowish-orange glow. (We even had one that showed a blue & green orb floating by my staircase. STRANGE!) I tried adjusting the settings to fix the issues, but nothing worked. I'm not a camera expert, but I understand what most of the features and menu itmes do. I have used them on my sd800is with much success. I had my husband and his brother (both are smart techy guys) work with the camera. Still, we could not get it to take clear pictures. When I tried to take pics outside they came out virtually white, completely overexposed. My daughter tried taking some pics and did have success, but only if she took them in pitch darkness with the flash on. They were clear and sharp with good color. They looked like they had been taken with my old camera. But, how practical is a camera that only works in the dark???

I called Canon support and they took me through the same steps I had already tried, finally suggesting that I ship it in for service. They were very friendly, helpful, and professional, but they couldn't replace the product, only service mine and return it to me in about 3 weeks.

After considering my 30 day return window with Amazon, I decided by the time I would get it back from Canon, if I wasn't satisfied, I wouldn't be able to return it. So I declined the Canon service and simply returned it to Amazon, which was also a very simple and painless process.

We ended up spending less than half as much on a Polaroid t1031. It doesn't have all the cool features the Canon has (no video either), but it does have image stabilization, a rechargeable battery, and the greatest part... it takes good pictures! And she has some money left in her pocket so that's a good thing as well.

I won't say, "Don't buy a Canon" because I love my old one and the features and customer service are great. I will say, "Don't be afraid to return it." Most of the reviews are great, but sometimes you get a lemon like I did. I chose not to make lemonade, I sent it back and got some pretty delicious orange soda. YUM!!!
Good Beginner Camera, light on quality construction.

Good startup camera for point and shoot. There is a real difference in the quality of the construction between this and other Canon products I've owned. Slow focus. Good picture quality. Features are very helpful giving options to "auto mode" I think I would go up a model or two next time.
Great Camera for the Price

My daughter used and older model of this camera in her digital photography class and fell in love with it. I purchased the up dated version and we are all please with the camera. Has plenty of extras and video and prints come out clear. Great camera for the price.

Best printer I have owned in years!!

Review Date: August 1, 2010
Reviewer: Kathleen Jagger, Kentwood, Michigan, US
Over the last few years I have owned a few different types of printers made by the same large company. The last one I had bought nearly 9 months ago and it had stopped working suddenly. I tried all of the troubleshooting and contacted the company's customer service and didn't get any help that would solve the problem.
After spending many hours trying to figure this problem out, I knew that I needed a printer and fast.
I went and read all of the customer reviews for this printer on Amazon.com and decided that I would try this.

I received it very quickly as I had requested two day shipping and had it put together and running in the shortest amount of time for any printer that I have ever had in the past. Everything went so smoothly and I have to say that I am TOTALLY impressed.
Just what I was looking for

I downloaded the latest Windows 7 software from Canon, installed the software, then unboxed the printer, removed the massive amount of tape (it was very well boxed) and setup the printer. Printer worked first time and output was beautiful!

I got the Canon to replace an older printer, the Canon was easy to setup and so far has performed well. I have not used the scan feature but everything else is very good.
Don't Buy this item from ACE PHOTO DIGITAL

FIRST: This item is NOT "all-in-one" - it does NOT have a FAX. After purchasing & this printer, and discovering that it didn't have a fax, I went back to the info on the AMAZON website, & could find absolutely no information on it that would alert a buyer to the fact that this "all-in-one" machine didn't have Fax capability. There also was no information on the box that the printer came in that listed the "all-in-one" capabilities of the machine, so it wasn't until I opened it that I found that it did not include a fax. I immediately returned it to the box - without plugging it in or using it in any way, and contacted the seller - Ace Photo Digital.

SECOND: When I explained the situation to them (via email), they decided that they would accept the return, but I would have to pay the shipping charges, and a hefty restocking fee. On 5/5/10 I called Ace Photo Digital & spoke to Nikki - she agreed that, if I paid the shipping charges, Ace Photo Digital would not charge me a restocking fee.

THIRD: I returned the machine to Ace Photo Digital as I had promised, but Ace renigged on their promise and went ahead & charged me the restocking fee.

LAST: Since the merchandise wasn't as advertised (All-in-One), I feel that I shouldn't have had to pay either the shipping fees or the restocking fee, but Ace Photo Digital went ahead and charged me these fees, even after promising not to. Unfortunately, I found out about this just before leaving on an extended cross-country trip, so was not able to "Rate the Seller", so I'm rating the product & warning prospective buyers about the unethical advertising and selling practices of this vendor: ACE PHOTO DIGITAL

An also ran.

I've owned quite a few printers in my day. This one is definitely forgettable. The sluggishness in creation of a print outcome, and fair colors to pictures printed using normal settings (Vista) make me less likely to purchase again from Canon.
Wireless set-up was hopeless and I'm an advanced, not expert, computer user. Most recently I had bought a Dell printer which also surprisingly had wireless set-up failures.
If you're reading this and shopping, try the newest Dell V313 which I purchased for my GF: worked better than its predecessor and around the same price.

WORST DIGITAL CAMERA I HAVE EVER OWNED

Review Date: July 27, 2010
Reviewer: CODY E WINCHELL, LOUISVILLE, KY, US
Well my frustration with this camera came to a head last week on our trip to the Smoky Mountains.... I took 7 pictures of Bears and 6 of them turned out blurry. We also went to the Nascar speed park and ALL of the pictures from there turned out blurry. bottom line unless you are standing still this camera sucks completely. i have tried every mode on this camera - auto/easy auto/running/portrait/landscape - you name it it simply isn't possible to take a picture of anything that is in motion. A complete P.O.S. also, anytime you ask someone "Hey, can you take our picture?" - you have to give them a lesson and tell them to "hold it EXTREMELY STILL - then push the buttom 1/2 way down - then the light will turn green - then push the button the rest of the way down" - it is effin impossible to teach someone how to use this p.o.s. i am trying to return mine to Nikon for a full refund. simply horrible - the worst digital camera i have ever owned BY A MILE!!!!!!!!!!!!
What's worse the camera or the company?

This camera operated properly for about two months. Then one day I started getting a battery error message. I couldn't do anything with the camera so I replaced the batteries with other new ones I had. The same problem, "battery exhausted" message would appear on the screen. The camera was completely unfunctional. I went and bought more batteries at the store, just to be sure it wasn't actually the batteries. The same error message.

So now I have to go through the agravation to return the camera to Nikon Service Department. I packaged it up shipped it back to them and received my same camera back in about 2 weeks. I took it out the box, pushed the power button the camera immediately turned a solid color and the screen was locked. I couldn't power the camera off or on either. The only was to reboot it is to remove the batteries.

I went the whole same scenario of trying different batteries and nothing worked. The screen would turn a solid color or I would get the same message, "battery exhausted" I just could get over the fact that the repair person, did not even bother to try to turn the camera on and see if it worked.

I tried calling their customer no service number and of course I get someone who can barely speak english. I demanded to speak to a supervisor and they refuse to replace my camera with a new one. Maybe Nikon has good products and bad, but I'll never find out that is for sure. I would never buy anything from this company ever again.
Poor Camera, LCD conked off within days of using

Review Date: July 13, 2010
Reviewer: turboguy, USA
Bought this camera online from Dell because of a nice deal. Sadly this camera's LCD failed within a couple of days of using it on a vacation. Just has white vertical lines and no menu comes up. Took about 300 photos and videos in those 2 days. Some were good, but some were darker even though lighting was not an issue and similar photos at same time came out ok. Also takes blur photos. Again in a sequence of photos some were ok and some blurred. All in all why do you want to waste your time if the photos you take (precious) do not come out okay. Better to get a reliable camera than a cheap one. Till now my Nikon opinion based on seeing the SLRs was top marks. Now not so.
It's a long shot...

Reviewer: Janet G. Tracy,
if you get a picture that isn't burry. This is undoubtedly the worst camera that I have used (not just owned) in my 30 years of enjoying photography. I had an earlier HP point and shoot that was terrific. Wanted an easily totable camera as opposed to the heavy gear of my slrs & lens. As the saying goes, your best camera is the one you have with you. Not so with this one. Maybe one in ten shots is passable and forget about indoors. There is no accounting for when a pic is blurry or when the flash decides to work. A friend also purchased this model and has the same opinion. What can I say except, this is an un-Coolpix, keep on shopping and pass this one by.

It's a good point and shoot for beginners. Nothing more to expect for that price. I recommend this camera for all beginners who wants cheap and good camera.
